Street Tacos steps from the beach

I love Mexican food. When people ask what one food I would want if I was stranded on an island, without hesitation I say Mexican. Growing up in Southern California I was eating some of the best Mexican food in the States at a very early age. Part of that experience included day-long family parties hosted by my mom’s Hispanic co-workers, surf trips to northern Baja, as well an my Aunt Patty’s homemade tortillas or refried beans.

So a few years ago when we first visited Anna Maria and came across Poppo’s Taqueria I was intrigued but a bit cautious as my experience with Mexican food in Florida has been less than impressive. Poppo’s did not disappoint! With fresh, natural, locally sourced, organic, made-in-house and free-range ingredients the flavor and quality was amazing. Tacos, burritos, bowls and more, but my favorite is the Wild Boar Chorizo Street Taco. So good! Made-in-house chips, salsa, and guac with one of many local micro-brew beers is a great way to start your meal.

Their Anna Maria location at 212 Pine Ave has a great rustic beach vibe where unlink most restaurants today you will not find a single TV. With enough seating inside and out it and plenty of car and bike parking the atmosphere encourages you to hangout for a while with friends and enjoy a second beer.  In addition to the location on Anna Maria, my personal favorite, they also have three additional locations on the mainland in Bradenton.

When you are staying at the Beach Cruiser and a Mexican Street Taco made with fresh ingredients sounds pefect for lunch or dinner, there is no better place on Anna Maria than Poppo’s!
